Most teachers waste their summary space. They write vague nonsense about wanting to inspire the next generation. I know you want to inspire kids. You wouldn't be in this underpaid profession if you didn't. What I need to know is if you can handle a room full of hormonal thirteen-year-olds. Your summary needs to prove you are a professional educator, not a martyr. It should highlight your specific expertise and the exact environment where you thrive. Don't be generic. Be brutally specific.
Sarah's summary works because it is brutally honest and specific. She mentions keeping teenagers off their phones. That tells me she lives in reality. She also highlights her specific environment, urban public schools, which shows she knows what she is getting into at my building. She doesn't hide behind academic jargon. She states her value clearly. She proves she can raise test scores while maintaining a positive culture. That is exactly what every principal is looking for right now.
2. The bullets focus on results, not duties.
Your job description is not your résumé. I already know that a teacher grades papers, writes lesson plans, and attends staff meetings. Do not list those things. It is a massive waste of space. Instead, tell me what happened because you were in that classroom. Did your students read at grade level? Did you reduce behavioral referrals? Give me the numbers. Show me the impact. I need evidence that you actually teach, rather than just surviving until the bell rings.
Look at the first job entry. Sarah doesn't just say she taught science. She says she raised test scores by 14% despite chronic absenteeism. That is a real metric. It shows she understands the data-driven reality of modern education. She also mentions securing grant money. Principals love teachers who find their own funding. It shows initiative.
